Pool overflow grate overview
SIMO Screens pool overflow grates cover the narrow drainage channels that people walk beside or across, often barefoot. Each grate is built from V-profile stainless wire resistance welded to support rods and made to the width, length and curvature of the channel.
The flat face of each wire forms the top surface, while the slot widens below it. Overflow water, hair and fine debris therefore fall through instead of jamming, and anything larger stays on the face, where it is easy to wipe away.
Features and benefits
- Comfortable underfoot. The smooth, flat wire face suits bare feet, and narrow slots keep toes, heels and small objects out of the channel.
- Fast drainage. Continuous slots give a high open area for the slot width, so overflow and shower water leave quickly; the open area calculator gives the figure for any profile.
- Non-clogging slot. Hair and particles either pass the widening slot or sit on the face, which keeps the channel flowing between cleanings.
- Clean appearance. Parallel wires give a fine, regular line that suits tiles, stone and timber decks, with a brushed or electropolished finish for visible areas.
- Rigid welded construction. Every wire and rod intersection is resistance welded, so long sections stay straight and true.
Applications
- Pool overflow channels on deck-level, infinity and skimmer-edge pools, where the grate forms the pool edge
- Linear shower drains in hotels, homes, hospitals and changing rooms, where a slim shower grate sits flush with the tiles
- Balcony and terrace drains at door thresholds, where a balcony drain grate gives a level, step-free finish
- Landscape drains along paved paths, patios, podiums and planters
- Spa and wet areas, including steam rooms, plunge pools and wash areas
Commercial kitchens, car parks and food plants are served by the heavier stainless steel drainage grates, and the full range is described under buildings, architecture and drainage.

Materials and sizing
Material. Chlorinated and saltwater pools are aggressive to stainless steel, and indoor pool halls concentrate chlorine compounds in the air. Duplex 2205 is recommended for these conditions, with SS 316L as the budget option; the material selection guide compares the grades.
Channel and seating. The clear channel width and the depth to the seating ledge fix the grate size, and pool grates are made to sit flush with the coping to avoid a trip edge.
Curves and sections. Curved sections are rolled to the channel radius taken at the grate line. Sections are kept to lengths one person can lift, with joints placed to suit the channel outlets.
Load. Pool and shower grates normally carry foot traffic only, so any cleaning machines or service vehicles crossing the grate should be stated in the enquiry.
Engineering and quality
Each order is checked for slot, span and load before production. Slots are verified with feeler gauges at set-up, during the run and at the end of each section, to a standard tolerance of plus or minus 5 percent of nominal. Every order is supplied with a Mill Test Certificate, and a dimensional inspection report is available on request.
