Custom engineering

Engineered to your specification, drawing or sample

Most SIMO screens are engineered to order from the purchaser's process data, drawing or sample. SIMO engineering selects the slot, profile wire, support rod, material and flow direction, then verifies the design before production.

CFD is used to predict pressure drop and FEA to validate the structure where the design calls for it, and the customer approves a drawing before any wire is cut. The custom engineering process runs in six steps, from enquiry to dispatch.

Six steps from enquiry to dispatch: send details, engineering review, CFD and FEA, drawing approval, manufacture, dispatch with Mill Test Certificate

  1. Share the requirement, a drawing or a photo of the existing screen.
  2. Engineering review of slot, open area, profile wire and support rod.
  3. CFD and FEA where the design calls for them.
  4. Drawing approval by you before anything is cut.
  5. Manufacture at our works in Nagpur.
  6. Dispatch with a Mill Test Certificate.

Quality

Engineered, inspected, documented

Engineering review

Slot, open area, through-slot velocity and structural load are checked for every custom design before production; see design engineering.

Verified design

CFD for pressure drop and FEA for structure where the design requires them, with the method set out in screen design calculations.

Controlled slot

Slots are checked with feeler gauges through the welding run against a tolerance of plus or minus 5 percent; see the inspection and testing plan.

Traceable documents

A Mill Test Certificate with every product and heat numbers traced to the finished screen through its identification tag, under an ISO 9001:2015 quality system.

How it works

How wedge wire works

A wedge wire screen is V-shaped profile wire wound or laid across support rods and resistance welded at every intersection, so the screen behaves as a single rigid structure.

The flat face of the wire meets the process, and the slot widens behind it, so a particle that passes the face cannot lodge in the slot. Oversized particles touch the wire at two points only and are carried off the surface.

This geometry is why wedge wire screens resist blinding where mesh and perforated plate do not, and why the slot holds its size under load. The full explanation is in what is a wedge wire screen.

How a wedge wire screen is built: V-profile wire resistance welded to support rods at every intersection.
How a wedge wire screen separates without clogging Animated cross-section: liquid and fine particles pass through the slots between V-profile wires, which widen downward, while oversize particles roll across the flat wire faces. FEED SUPPORT RODS RUN BEHIND AT INTERVALS, RESISTANCE WELDED TO EVERY WIRE Fines pass the slot and leave through the widening gap; oversize particles touch two points and roll across.

Why wedge wire does not clog: two-point contact and an inward-widening slot.

Made in India

Made in Nagpur

SIMO Screens designs, forms profile wire, welds, fabricates and inspects at its own works at MIDC Butibori, Nagpur, with road access to plants across India and export shipments from Indian ports.

Working with a wedge wire screen company that manufactures its own screens gives the purchaser direct access to the engineers who designed the screen and the team that built it. See the Butibori works.

Questions

Common questions

What does SIMO Screens make?

We make welded wedge wire screens: flat panels, cylinders, screen tubes, water well screens, sieve bends, centrifuge baskets, header and lateral assemblies, filter nozzles, resin traps, support grids and related fabricated products such as drainage grates and rainwater filters.

Do you manufacture, or are you one of the wedge wire screen suppliers who resell?

We manufacture. Every screen is designed, welded, fabricated and inspected at our own works at MIDC Butibori, Nagpur.

What slot sizes and materials can you supply?

Slot openings run from 25 microns (0.025 mm) to 25 mm. Materials are SS 304, SS 316L, Duplex 2205, Super Duplex 2507, Hastelloy and Monel. SIMO engineering recommends the slot and grade from the process conditions.

Can you make a screen to our own drawing?

Yes. Most SIMO screens are engineered to the purchaser's drawing or specification. Each design is reviewed, checked with CFD and FEA where required, and sent as a drawing for approval before manufacture.

Where are you based, and do you supply wedge wire screens across India?

Our works are at MIDC Butibori, Nagpur, Maharashtra. Our registered office is on CA Road, Nagpur. We supply plants across India and export to Bangladesh, Indonesia, the UAE, Canada and Australia.
